Privacy Policy
West Coast Landscaping (WCL, "we", "us") respects your privacy. This page explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Who we are
West Coast Landscaping is a sole proprietorship operated by Matthew Hutchison in Nanaimo, BC. We provide residential and realtor-listing landscaping services across Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Ladysmith.
Information we collect
We only collect information you actively provide:
- Quote requests: name, phone number, email address (optional), and any message you choose to send via our contact form.
- Phone calls and emails: any information you share when contacting us directly.
- Anonymous website analytics: aggregated traffic data (pages viewed, device type, approximate location at the city level) collected by Google Analytics 4. This data does not identify you personally.
We do not collect payment card information through this website. Billing happens by e-transfer or invoice after a service is booked.
How we use your information
- To respond to your quote request with a price within 24 hours.
- To schedule and deliver the landscaping services you book.
- To send service-related updates (appointment confirmations, completion notices, invoices).
- To improve the website by understanding which pages and topics visitors find useful.
We do not send marketing emails to people who fill out the quote form. We do not sell or rent your information to third parties.
Who we share your information with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the website and our communication. They process information on our behalf under their own privacy policies:
- Cloudflare hosts the website and provides spam protection (Turnstile) on the contact form. Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Brevo delivers email between you and Matthew (quote notifications and replies). Brevo privacy policy.
- Google Analytics 4 provides aggregate website analytics. We do not share IP addresses or personal identifiers. Google privacy policy.
We may also disclose information when required by law (court order, government request) or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
Cookies and tracking
The website uses a small number of first-party analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4. These help us count anonymous page views and measure engagement. They do not identify you personally. You can disable cookies in your browser settings without affecting site functionality.
How long we keep your information
Quote requests and customer communications are retained for as long as you are an active customer plus seven years afterwards (typical small-business record-keeping practice for tax and warranty purposes). Anonymous analytics data is retained for 14 months.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information (where legally permitted).
- Withdraw consent for any future communications.
To exercise any of these rights, email matthew@westcoastlandscaping.ca with the subject line "Privacy Request" and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our practices or legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
