Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of the West Coast Landscaping website (westcoastlandscaping.ca) and the landscaping services provided by West Coast Landscaping ("WCL", "we", "us"). By using the website or booking a service, you agree to these terms.
About us
West Coast Landscaping is a sole proprietorship operated by Matthew Hutchison, based in Nanaimo, BC. We provide residential lawn care, hedge trimming, power washing, aeration, fertilization, seasonal cleanups, and garden bed care, plus realtor listing-prep packages.
Service area
We serve the following communities on central Vancouver Island, BC:
- Nanaimo (primary, regular weekly service)
- Lantzville (regular weekly service)
- Cedar (regular weekly service)
- Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith (cleanup and listing-prep work)
Outside this area we will quote case by case.
Quotes and pricing
You can request a quote by contact form, phone, or email. We confirm a flat price within 24 hours of receiving the address. Once you accept the quote and book, the price is locked in for the agreed scope.
Standard packages and tier pricing are published on /realtor-pricing and /yard-cleanup-nanaimo. Recurring service rates and monthly plans are listed on the homepage.
Quotes for additional work outside the original scope are provided in writing or by text message and are subject to your acceptance before we proceed.
Booking and scheduling
Bookings are confirmed by email or text. Standard turnaround on the listing-prep and yard-reset packages is 48 hours from confirmed address; rush jobs around photo dates are accommodated when possible.
Severe weather or unsafe site conditions may require rescheduling. We will give as much notice as possible.
Cancellation
One-time bookings can be cancelled or rescheduled at no charge with 24 hours' notice. Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled visit may be charged a small fee to cover crew scheduling.
Recurring service plans (monthly) can be cancelled at any time with two weeks' notice. Pre-paid months are not refunded but the service continues through the paid period.
Payment
Initial visits are billed on completion. Recurring service is billed monthly. We prefer e-transfer; cheques and cash are also accepted. Invoices are payable within 14 days of issue.
Late payments may incur a 1.5% monthly interest charge after 30 days. Persistent non-payment may result in suspension of service.
Property access and conditions
You are responsible for providing safe access to your property and for clearing pets, toys, and other obstacles before our scheduled visit. We are not responsible for damage caused by hidden hazards (sprinkler heads, buried cables, dog waste) that were not disclosed in advance.
If we identify a hazard or condition that prevents safe completion of the work, we will pause and contact you before proceeding.
What we don't do
To set expectations clearly:
- No chemical sprays. We do not apply iron sulphate, herbicides, or pesticides. Spray applications are the homeowner's responsibility (granular fertilization, which is not a regulated spray, is fine).
- No retaining walls, irrigation installation, or landscape design.
- No snow removal.
- No elevated platforms or scaffolding. Tall hedge work is performed from the ground using extended-reach tools.
- No ride-on mowers. We are walk-behind only.
Liability
WCL carries general liability insurance for the work we perform. Our liability is limited to the cost of the service provided. We are not responsible for incidental or consequential damages, pre-existing property conditions, or issues arising from undisclosed hazards.
Warranty
We stand behind our work. If something doesn't meet a reasonable standard for the service booked, contact us within seven days and we will return to correct it at no additional charge. Lawn outcomes that depend on weather, watering, or homeowner follow-through (overseeding, fertilization results, etc.) are not warranted.
Photos
We may photograph completed work for our website, social media, and marketing materials. We do not photograph occupied homes, license plates, or any identifiable personal property without your permission. If you do not want photos of your property used, tell us and we will respect that.
Website use
The website's content, design, and code are the property of West Coast Landscaping. You may share links and reasonable excerpts with attribution. Wholesale copying of pages, pricing tables, or photography is not permitted.
Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia. Any disputes that cannot be resolved by good-faith conversation will be handled through the courts of British Columbia.
Changes
We may update these terms occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the website or our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
