Parksville lawns split into two big categories — full-time residential lawns that need consistent weekly service through the growing season, and vacation/snowbird properties that need maintenance whether the owner's there or not. We service both, and the two have different rhythms.
Vacation-home schedules, handled remotely
A real chunk of Parksville is part-time. Snowbirds head south for winter, vacation properties sit empty for months at a time, family cottages get used for summer weeks only. These lawns still need mowing — they don't stop growing because the owner's away. We handle absentee-owner properties with scheduled visits, photographic property reports after each visit, and direct invoicing. The owner sees the property is being cared for without having to manage anything from a distance.
Sandy soil changes lawn care
Closer to the beach, Parksville's soil is sandier than what you'll find in Nanaimo or Lantzville. Sandy soil drains fast, holds less water, and leaches nutrients quickly. The lawn-care implications are real — these lawns dry out faster in summer, need more frequent (but lighter) watering, and benefit from more frequent fertilization at lower rates. We adjust the mowing height upward in summer (longer grass shades the soil and conserves moisture) and watch for the early signs of drought stress.

Commercial walk-behind, not consumer
Same equipment standard everywhere we work — commercial walk-behind mowers, not ride-ons and not consumer machines. The cut is cleaner, the consistency is better, and the equipment runs hour after hour without overheating. For typical Parksville residential lots, this is the right tool.
Pre-season prep for snowbirds
One of the most common Parksville calls we get is from owners returning home for the season — the lawn has been mowed by us all spring, and they want a one-shot pre-arrival reset. We coordinate the timing, get the property looking its best for the homecoming, and continue the regular service from there.
What's included weekly
- Mowing at the right height for the season
- Full edge trimming on all borders
- Driveway and walkway blow-down
- Clippings managed (mulch or haul, your preference)
- Visual property check (with photo report for absentee owners)
- Same crew, same day, every week
Beach debris, and what we do with it
Parksville lawns close to the water occasionally see debris that other Island lawns don't — driftwood, kelp blown inland, beach grass migrating into the turf. We deal with it as part of the regular visit. Driftwood comes off the lawn, kelp gets composted along with the clippings, beach grass gets handled separately so it doesn't seed across the lawn.
Year-round visibility
Even in the dormant winter months, we offer occasional visits to keep an eye on the property — clear storm debris, check for drainage issues that show up after heavy rain, deal with mole or chafer damage if it appears. Vacation owners especially appreciate the quiet check-in service.
